What does "renewal" mean?
A subscription renews if it isn't canceled. More specifically, it renews if it continues past a billing date.
A subscription renews whether or not a payment is taken from the user at the billing date. For example, a plan in a three-month free trial phase (zero cost) might still have a monthly billing period. At each billing date, the subscription counts as renewed.
